Hi Robert,
I prefer not to write comments on LinkedIn for all
the world to see, especially when a political nature. I thought the article you
sent was interesting and has merit. However I also recently read an article in
the American Society of Women Accountants' Newsletter that the Bureau of Labor
Statistics projects a 22% growth in accountant and auditor employment between
2008 and 2018 adding 279,400 more positions to the 1.29 million already existing
jobs. That article goes on to say "The accounting profession is often tied to
the growth of the economy. More business creation means more clients. Despite
the recesion, the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the number of accountants
to grow faster than the national average for job growth." So at least that's
good news for people like me, and I have noticed lately quite a lot of good
qualilty accounting job openings which I have been and will continue to be busy
applying to. One of my sisters also recently sent me an article from The Boston
Globe that says "As 2011 opens, the first of the baby boomers will join us,
turning 65 at the rate of 10,000 a day for the next 19 years" and that we are in
a "longevity revolution", the idea of a post-retirement career.....known as
"encore career" where "people are seeking purposeful work"....."at something
meaningful". Anyway it will be interesting to see what happens.
Best,
Gail
