Your dad's birth certificate was with his stuff/photos so saw his 
parents' names,looked up his 
dad Alexander Johnson Howard(from Mary Johnson his mother's 
name your gr grandmother),found 
them all in censuses.In censuses they list occupation and Alexander and 
Mary both were cotton mill workers.
Also, someone in Sonoma has Inskeeps in their family tree  on Ancestry.com

(I've been rearranging stuff,some things were in a plastic bag, so 
transfered them to sturdier paper 
bag, moved some things around into different boxes so they aren't 
squishing things or making box too heavy)
