I'm not sure I understand.  You mean, you're trying to play it via
Firefox?  It should work.  However, you need to make sure the volume on
the correct device is turned up.  When you click on the volume thing, go
to the Mixer, switch to the audio device you're interested in (e.g.,
speakers), then make sure Firefox volume is turned up under the
applications tab.
