Yeah, I agree with you.

There are instructions on

on how to disable the alerts.  Otherwise, you'll need to continually
dismiss the upgrade prompt.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7 , there will be
security updates until Jan 14, 2020.

If you do want to learn one more operating system, but never have to
upgrade, you might consider switching to linux.

Otherwise, you probably will have to upgrade to Windows 10 at some point.
The [only] good news is that Windows 10 will be the last operating system
that you'd have to learn since, after Windows 10, Macrosoft will only
refine Windows 10 and not do any more major releases.
