I just realized that I forgot to ask you for the make and model of your laptop. However, it may be easier for you to just visit http://www.crucial.com/ and download the "Crucial System Scanner" to find the exact memory that will work with your system. I recommend getting the largest amount of memory that will work with your laptop. If it isn't 8 GB or more, then you should just get another laptop. These days you need at least 8 gig to run most applications at a decent speed. (BTW, if you do get rid of your laptop, I'd be glad to take it off your hands. Given that I don't run Windows, I can run alternative operating systems that run much faster on old hardware.) I think the Crucial web site will also provide instructions on how to actually upgrade the memory once your receive it. Call me if you need further help.
