Well, this is the problem that Paul Ehrlich said: it's a lot easier to get
people to have fewer kids than to buy less stuff.

It's clear that the only way to reduce consumption is to increase product
prices.  It's possible that Trump's isolationist policies will do just
that, which may be the only (other than canceling the Trans-Pacific
Partnership) good thing to come out of this administration.  'Tho, forcing
meat processing plants to stay open is exactly the wrong direction.
