The final sentence seems to say it all:

 “The whole problem with all this is
 everybody’s afraid of stuff they
 shouldn’t be afraid of and not afraid of things
 they should be afraid of,” he said.
 “They’re willing to go to a
 bar and drink, but they’re afraid to get on a
 bus.”

It took probably 5 years or so for people to start forgetting about the
2001 terrorist attacks.  Think people will be jumping back onto buses and
trains in 5 years?
