When there is a low voter turnout, the electorate is usually more conservative and, in general, right wing. Liberals voting against Boudin had nothing to do with it. This article is also mostly bereft of general statistics (except the one about property crime), and the other statistics are simply selected to support the anecdotes in the article. Unless you are only appealing to people's feelings, just statistics can be depended upon for the objective state of things. Clearly, this article is trying to explain people's feelings. People seem to have vague feelings, and Boudin seemed to be the scapegoat for those feelings. The bottom line is that San Francisco is nothing like 1970s New York City, which should be the starting point for any discussion about crime. SF is in way, way better shape than 1970s NYC.
