Bernieâs presidential campaigns were not campaigns
that Gene would recognize as socialism." I think it's a bit unfair to say
that Sanders would not have supported co-ops if he had become president.
He didn't include it in his rhetoric because most people these days
wouldn't understand what most of it would mean. People in the nineteenth
century were bathed and socialism and understood more. Most modern
Americans have only ever been bathed in capitalist ideology.
