I did a little research about Android. I was hoping that an Android
"alternative" would have a longer lifetime, but it appears that there is
no way to get around the hardware, which seems to be the main limitation,
even with better software. (You can get a better lifetime, but, then,
there are more likely to be hardware-level security holes.)
Anyway, the cheapest phone with the longest lifetime would be the Pixel 8
running stock Android (Google) software. This would be supported through
2030. A Pixel 9 will be supported through 2031, but those are a bit more
expensive.
Transferring everything from an Apple phone to an Android phone is a
semi-big task. There are lots of gory details here:

. Unless you're willing to reinstall all your apps and give up your old
text messages, you'll need to buy a Lightning to USB-C cable to accomplish
the transfer.
Getting a brand new Apple iPhone 17 will have security fixes through 2033,
but it will cost approximately three (3) times as much than the Pixel 8
and about twice (2) as expensive as the Pixel 9.
