I see reports of this phenomenon going back to 2021. So, it's been going
on for a while.
I think I've always dropped my mail into the blue boxes just before the
pick-up time, so we probably just lucked out in the past.
But, these days, most of my bill-paying is electronic or I just hand the
check directly to the person. Even when it's electronic, presumably the
preprinted checks don't pass through USPS blue boxes. So, that's probably
safe, too.
