church and state

Jefferson had a lot of moral shortcomings, but he definitely was a deep
thinker and it was very wise to advocate for the separation of church
(religion) and state, especially given that there were (and still are) so
many flavors of Christianity (not to even mention the myriad of other
religions).

(I do have to say that there is already too much Christianity embedded
within government.  For example, I don't understand why Christmas is a
national holiday.  🎅)
