migration patterns to communist and socialist countries

I was surprised to learn from Brave Leo that Venezuela is not a communist
state, but, rather, a "socialist state".  However, its political system is
"authoritarian socialism".

I was equally surprised to find that India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh,
and Portugal are likewise "socialist states".

And, Brave Leo agrees with you that "Migration from communist and
socialist-led states to the United States remains significant, driven by
both long-standing diaspora communities and recent surges in asylum
seekers.  As of mid-2026, immigrants from the five one-party communist
states (China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, Vietnam) and socialist-led nations
like Venezuela and Nicaragua collectively account for millions of the U.S.
foreign-born population."

In addition, "There is significant migration from both India and Portugal,
though the scale and nature differ drastically.  While both nations
include "socialist" in their constitutional descriptions, they are
multi-party democracies with mixed economies, not one-party communist
states.  Consequently, migration from these countries is driven by economic
opportunity and family ties rather than political persecution or state
collapse."

And, yes, migration to communist, socialist, and multi-party socialist
countries from the United States remains very low.
