re-enabling privacy settings in Firefox

The main addon you want is:

 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/requestpolicy/

Just click on the above link and click "Add to Firefox".  After
installing, there will be a red flag.  Click on it when you want to enable
certain sites.

By default, almost all sites are disabled.  So, it will take a while to
get up to speed, but it's worth it.
