Thanks. George, from Sonic support, actually replaced the modem. Everything worked perfectly as soon as he installed it. He told me that the modem, being new, was going to upgrade itself and he offered to do the firmware upgrade immediately. I took him up on the offer. However, after the firmware upgrade finished, the problem came back. We used his phone and it failed in the same way as my phones. So, my phones are not at fault. In addition to George, George's colleague looked at it, and both of them saw what I saw: the problem with DTMF/touchtones has nothing to do with my phones. It seems to be a problem between the Adtran fiber modem and the downstream VOIP/SIP servers, probably related to the firmware in modem.
